Attitude And Behavior

Humans unconsciously seek to keep away pain and death. And in spite of that, we may behave in a way that is a threat to our well-being. There are some reasons why this happens. The first is lack of
awareness. What you do not know, may ruin you. The second reason we may proceed in an unsafe manner is attitude. Now may be a right time to do a quick self-analysis. What is your attitude regarding safety?

When asked, some might say they are all for it. Others might criticize about any safety effort being made. The difference relating the two is one of attitude. Your attitude affects virtually all that you do and how you do it.

Have you ever observed that people who are prosperous in life, or are just happy, tend to have a positive attitude? And that is how it is with safety. Consider it this way; safety rules and procedures are written down to safeguard you from harm. They were not written to make your work life more difficult or inconvenient. After everything else, safety equipment and training costs your boss additional up front money.

If you work together in safety matters, not only is there a lesser chance of you getting hurt, you will not be doing battle with your employer who is just trying to do his job by implementing the safety rules. In addition, you ought to feel more confident on the job knowing you have a good chance of making it thorough the day without accident. Less fear of harm and the boss no more on your back has to brighten your day.

We are not faultless. Even the best of us could forget or make mistakes in judgment. To make the most of our safety efforts, we must look out for each other. If your coworker tells you that you are not working in a safe way, do not become irritated or defensive. They are just looking out for your safety. If you do not know you were doing something wrong, be grateful your mistakes were noticed before someone got hurt. If you just forgot or got a little careless, be thankful that someone cares enough to get you back on track. If you see someone at risk, speak up, but do so politely. Treat others just as you would like to be treated in the same circumstances.

Remember, attitude influences behavior. If you have a positive attitude, likelihoods are you will show off safe behavior. A negative attitude toward safety will only result in conflict, stress and, eventually, an accident.
