In general terms, we were not created with common sense, and we learn it through
life. Common sense is certainly our life’s occurrences (and teaching) placed into
action depending on the situations.
A good number of workers have the common sense required to prevent them from getting injured on the job – but sadly many do not use it. Safety professionals say at least 80% of workplace mishaps are caused by the unsafe acts of workers--and not by unsafe conditions. No doubt, a lot of those accidents might have been prevented if the wounded employee had just applied some common sense.
Therefore are you using common sense when you do the following?
Being In A Hurry - At times there is more worry for finishing a job quickly than safely. Take time to do an excellent job and a safe job.
Taking Unnecessary Chances - Heroic performance or deliberate indifference for safe work practices can put you and your fellow workers at risk. Adhere to all company safety rules and lookout out for your fellow employees. Unsafe behavior is certainly not appropriate on the job and at times may lead to disciplinary action.
Being Absent-minded – We all have other “stuffs” going on in our lives – family matters, financial problems, thinking and preparation for things outside of work. But not focused while on the job may get you seriously hurt or more so, killed. Concentrate on the job you’re paid to do. If your mind is preoccupied while at work, you are at far serious risk for an on-the-job injury.
Having the “It Will Not ever Happen to Me” Attitude – Perhaps you are qualified and good at your job. And you may have done a certain job or task hundreds of times the same way. So what if you are violating the safety rules – an accident will certainly not happen to you. Or will it?
Having A Negative Attitude - Being mad or in a sad mood may lead to a serious on-the-job injury because annoyance more or less always rules over carefulness, and at times might cause violent behavior or actions. Keep your “sad mood” in check and remain cool and in charge of your feelings while at work and you will be far less prone to get hurt.
Work safely every single day so you do not come
to be an accident statistic. You may do an excellence job without rushing. Sustain
a positive attitude and fix your mind on your work. Common sense--something clever
employees use on the job every day to stay injury-free!
